Destination SPACE - Satellite Week is a highly competitive residential camp aimed at fostering long-term interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) by providing students an engaging, hands-on, remote sensing educational opportunity. Satellite remote sensing provides a vast range of uses to analyze and potentially mitigate local and global environmental issues.

Destination SPACE – Satellite Week camp offered through the Asheville Museum of Science (AMOS) prides itself in its diversity of participants. Regardless of your experience, education, or future aspirations, if you are interested in Space and Earth sciences and eager to make new and lasting connections, this is the camp for you! Participants will learn about satellites and remote sensing at the University of North Carolina Asheville (UNCA) campus. The camp will feature NASA, NOAA, and UNCA scientists, engineers and educators and will be filled with stimulating science, engineering, and team building activities to foster future innovation and provide professional development. Destination SPACE inspires and empowers students to develop into capable scientists to become the next generation of STEM leaders!

2019 Destination SPACE - Satellite Week tuition is $900.00 and includes UNCA dorm accommodations and meals for the camp duration.

Application eligibility requirements for all participants:

  • Planned enrollment in rising grades 9-12 for 2019-2020 academic school year
  • Age requirement: 14-18 years old by July 2019
  • Completed application form (include all required information if applying for financial assistance)
  • Provide a short essay to describe what interests you in science (or technology) and how your participation in this program will help you achieve your academic and personal goals
  • Application form must completed by June 24, 2019
  • Late registration will remain open (if slots are available) until July 15th, a late fee of $200 applies
  • Upon acceptance, the following are required within 2 weeks:
    • A non-refundable deposit of $250 (unless financial aid is awarded)
    • Signed parent/guardian consent for residential attendance
    • Signed medical, liability, and photo release forms
    • Read and acknowledge all behavior policies
  • Balance tuition payment is due by July 15th
